Ice TV - is ICETV for REAL?
ICE TV IS :: The Australian free-to-air electronic program guide (EPG) for media centers and personal video recorders (PVRs).
The entertainment, video and multimedia market is undergoing sweeping changes. It is currently characterised by an expanding product offering, which nevertheless remains highly heterogeneous due to the fact that it covers devices from fields that were previously separate. At the heart of a digital home is the technical concept known as the Media Centre.
It combines Digital Video Recorder (DVR), also referred to as Personal Video Recorder (PVR), home networking, CD and DVD playback and MP3. Cable TV operators, telcos, consumer electronics and IT companies are all vying for the Media Centre business for the Digital Home. Progress in this market will continue to evolve with more mass market developments expected from 2008 onwards. In 2005 Foxtel launched its new DVR and free-to-air DVRs are now available at selected retailers. Austar is set to launch its DVR in 2007. The key to the success for DVRs is the EPG.

Nine appeals the court decision
March 19th, 2008
Although IceTV won its defence against the Channel Nine allegations in totality, including costs, Channel Nine are determined to try to fight IceTV into submission. Their appeal was heard in the Federal Court on February 25th and 26th 2008.
Amongst other things, the main appeal point was that Nine alleged that “time and title” were subject to copyright and that Her Honour Justice Bennett erred in her findings. IceTV’s defence team vigourously defended our position and we are confident of a positive outcome. A judgement in our favour is hoped for within the next six months.

“We think the IceTV Guide is truly innovative. A local company, IceTV has dared to go where no other company has gone - taken on Channel 9 - come off victorious - giving us a free-to-air electronic TV guide to use with PVR’s or media centre PC’s. The IceTV Guide makes recording your favourite free-to-air programs that much easier, and it comes as a price that is very reasonable.”

Response to FreeTV’s EPG Announcement & info on new HD Channels
November 19th, 2007
FreeTV Australia last week announced that the major commercial TV networks have agreed to start providing electronic program guide data via the broadcast signal. This is good news for those with an integrated TV or simple set-top-box…
However for most PVR users… this means nothing. Based on the information IceTV has been given by FreeTV Australia, it seems there are still no plans to provide the EPG data to any digital recording devices that have an in-built 30 second Skip Button or fast forward speeds of 60x or more. That accounts for about 99% of IceTV users.
We at IceTV believe that you should be able to enjoy & freely use all the intended features of the hardware device you yourself purchased and not be restricted in how and when you watch your favourite TV shows. One of the greatest benefits of being an IceTV subscriber is that you are in complete control. Watch, pause, rewind or skip through anything you’ve recorded. Snack on TV or sit down for a full feast.
